The UA Hoop Fest Preview
The UA Hoop Fest is this weekend in Minneapolis hosted by Grassroots Minnesota at the Midtown YMCA. Jalen Suggs and the Grassroots Sizzle team will be the feature squad that people will come to see.
The UA Hoops Fest on East Lake Street has games on four courts. Games will be played at the age levels from 8u all the way up to the 17u level with games moving from Friday night through late Sunday night.
Tonight will be Minnesota’s first local chance to see the Under Armour Grassroots Sizzle team play locally. Jalen Suggs is scoring nearly 20 points per game shooting 41 percent per game with five plus boards a game. The 2020 five star talent is one of the leading scorers in the UAA league.
Tayler Johnson is the Grassroots Sizzle second scoring option putting up 11-12 points a game and doing some of the handling. Johnson and Suggs have made an dynamic playmaking duo. The pair is also the leading rebounders for the team.
Up front JaVonni Bickham (7.5pg, 3.4rb) and Odell Wilson (5p, 4rb) are the bangers, Uhana Ochan is the length, and Aaron Gill (6.4pg, 4.2rb) is the explosive power forward. Damani Hayes and Jaquan Smith are also in the line-up for Grassroots.
The Grassroots Sizzle team is playing two games Saturday afternoon and they play the Wisconsin Super Hoops and the Grassroots Alumni team. The team has a dozen different 17U teams listed competing. There are several teams listed on a packed schedule of games in non tournament format.
