Scouting: Team RWA vs Hoopers
For the last game of the final spring live period PrepHoopsIllinois went to Indy Live to see one game and that turned out to be a good idea! Team RWA 2018 post George Conditt and Hoopers Basketball Club 2018 forward Zion Griffin both have their stocks on the rise! We breakdown the matchup in depth along with others that stood out in this game. Here is Scouting: Team RWA vs Hoopers Basketball Club.
C George Conditt IV (Team RWA 17U)
Conditt is a name we have been hearing a lot of buzz about over the last few months. The Corliss 6’10” 2018 center didn’t get much attention during the high school season despite putting up fairly productive numbers. In our first evaluation of him at Indy Live during the second live period we came away impressed and intrigued with the Chicago post. He has a long and lean frame that he will need to add significant weight on to over the next year to be ready for college. As an interior scorer he makes quick moves with the ball. Soft touch around the hoop. Lacks the strength to finish through bigger defenders at this stage. Likes to utilize a face up game. Good form on his jump shot. Connected on a one dribble pull up from mid-range along with a step back three. Shoots it with confidence. Missed a few, but they were sound shots. Showed he could put it on the deck a couple dribbles. Quality rebounder that uses his length to grab boards at the highest point. Most impressive play was an offensive rebound he grabbed out of his area and then drilled a floater. Runs the floor with ease and had a smooth transition dunk. Defensively he contests shots as he changed a couple of jumpers and blocked a shot recovering after his man beat him off the bounce. He went for 16 points and 6 boards. D1 prospect. We will need to see him again to determine level, but definitely a D1 player.
SF Kani Acree (Team RWA 17U)
Acree is a 6’4” small forward from Carbondale. The 2018 wing is coming off a strong junior campaign and looking to make noise this spring with Team RWA on the circuit. The strength of his game has become his mid-range. Used to not be the greatest shooter, but with a lot of work in the gym he is starting to be very consistent with his shot pulling up from 15-18 feet. Same consistency on the three ball isn’t quite there yet. Acree is a good transition player that also gets to the charity stripe a fair amount. He had 14 points. Potential low-major/high D2 prospect.
PG Christian Payne (Team RWA 17U)
Payne is a tiny 5’9” point guard out of Nazareth. The lead guard pushes it in the open floor. Quick and shifty with the rock in his hands. Had a strong take for an and-1 and also hit a pull up three behind a screen. Finished with 6 points. Small college player.
PG Tristan Jass (Team RWA 17U)
Jass is from Tremper High School in Wisconsin. The 5’9” point guard plays with a lot of flare. Stocky build. Gets elevation on his jumper as he hit a corner three off the catch as well as a pull up jump shot from mid-range. Shooting point guard that can force some shots at times. He had 9 points.
SF Zion Griffin (Hoopers Basketball Club 17U)
Griffin was outstanding when we saw him last weekend in Romeoville. The 6’5” 2018 small forward has a good frame with strength and big time athleticism. Right now he is at his best in transition where he can use his burst to explode toward the rim. Griffin had multiple monster jams including one early that almost brought the entire house down. Hit a few jumpers as well. Loves the pull up three. So much so that he can overshoot it instead of attacking. He shoots a good shot, but sometimes falls in love with it especially when he makes one early taking a lot of unforced jumpers. Drilled a couple pull up threes at the beginning of the game along with a step back then went cold the rest of the game. Athletically he has proven he can play the three at the next level over the last two weekends. Solid rebounder for a wing that can also block shots. Hinsdale South forward is a mid-major prospect with his stock on the rise! He had 14 points and 5 rebounds.
PG Tyler Cochran (Hoopers Basketball Club 17U)
Kind of a quiet game for Cochran. The 6’2” 2019 point guard from Bolingbrook has a strong body and is having a quality spring. Hit a catch and shoot three and made a few nice passes, but couldn’t really get into much of a rhythm otherwise. Low-major prospect.
PG Cameron Blackmon (Hoopers Basketball Club 17U)
Blackmon is a 5’9” point guard out of Joliet Catholic. Quick and shifty point guard that has some strength with his compact body. Physical finishing in the lane through contact. All game is off the bounce. Not much of a shooter. D3/NAIA prospect.
PG Matthew Guglielmo (Hoopers Basketball Club 17U)
This 5’11” Hinsdale Central point guard specializes as a shooter. The 2018 prospect has a quick release as he hit a pair of threes off the catch. Specialist at the next level for a small college program.
