Run N Slam: Saturday Standouts!
Saturday was a full day at the Run N Slam in Ft. Wayne. Games went from 8 AM to almost midnight. PrepHoopsIllinois breaks down the Saturday Standouts here!
SF Nathan Scott (All-In 17U)
Scott is a 6’6” unsigned 2017 recruit that is looking to go to JUCO for a year. He has a lot of tools to work with. The senior has a nice frame and length for a wing. Very projectable as you can see once he gets in a college weight program he could add on significant strength. Smooth athlete that can put it on the deck attacking from the high post with a couple dribbles. Likes spin moves in the lane when going to the hoop. Passes it fairly well for a wing. Streaky shooter, but can connect from three with a nice looking stroke. Defensively has potential as he contests shots on the perimeter and his length allows him to recover blocking shots. He had 11 points. Worth a serious look from all JUCOs.
SG Izayah Lee (All-In 17U)
Lee is a combo guard that is tough as nails. The scorer is at his best taking his man off the bounce and going on straight line drives to the rack. Has a knack for finding creases in the defense and converting acrobatic layups through traffic. Rebounds well for a guard. He had 16 points.
SF Jake Wolfe (Illinois Wolves 17U)
Wolfe is a strong wing that when we saw him last summer was mostly a spot up shooter. His ball handling has greatly improved over the last year. The Aurora Christian 2018 small forward showed better handles getting through traffic as he got to the rim with more ease than in the past. Also did what he does best which is let it fly from deep. Wolfe is a plus shooter off the catch. Hit the glass and played with a lot of toughness. He had 15 points against the Akron Bobcats. Low-major/D2+ prospect.
SF Drew Peterson (Illinois Wolves 17U)
Peterson was great again on Saturday. More of the same from the 6’7” skilled wing. He shot it well from all over the floor. Hit mid-range jumpers from a variety of spots on the floor. Elevation on his shot as he can stop and pop from both three and mid-range. Peterson made several nice dishes too including a couple in traffic where he dropped the ball off for teammates scores. High-major/mid-major plus prospect. Top 5 player in 2018 class in Illinois.
PG Markese Jacobs (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
The Kansas commit had it all working! Jacobs who will be transferring to Hillcrest in Arizona is starting to find his groove with the Fire 16U. At Run N Slam his jumper was wet! He connected all over the floor pulling up from both mid-range and three. Hit corner threes off the catch. Passed it well including a couple nice alley-oop passes. Played extremely hard. He had 20 points.
SG Deion Jackson (Chicago Select 16)
Jackson was a major part of the Chicago Select victory over the Illinois Wolves. Angular lefty wing that attacks off the dribble and finds the weaknesses in the opposing teams defense to exploit. Finishes extremely well at the rim and gets out in transition. Bouncy athlete that is projectable on the defensive end of the floor. Jackson is a potential low-major/D2 player.
PG Joseph Yesufu (Meansteets 16U)
Yesufu closed out Saturday night by putting on a show for Meanstreets. He was electric with the ball in his hands particularly in the second half. The Bolingbrook lead guard started on a team that went to state and the top 10 2019 prospect continues to get better each time we see him. Yesufu has outstanding speed in the open floor blowing by defenders. He takes and makes tough shots at the rim. One of the best layup makers in the 2019 class in Illinois. He had two huge dunks including one that had the gym buzzing at nearly 11 PM. Yesufu is a good passer that turns it over a bit, but makes way more plays to the positive. He had 16 points. Should be considered by mid-major programs.
PG DJ Steward (Meanstreets 15U)
Steward was fantastic! The Fenwick 2020 point guard is coming off a monster freshman campaign and has continued to improve. Great measurable with size and length for the two guard position while playing the lead guard spot. He has defensive tools to guard each backcourt position. Was a big time shot maker at the Spiece Fieldhouse. He shot the ball particularly well from beyond the arc. Free and easy release. Best we have seen him shoot the rock. Silky smooth with the ball going in and out of traffic getting where ever he wants on the floor. First game of Saturday it was about the three. Second was all about him attacking the defense and getting to the rim (granted they only had four players out there at one point). Best as a passer in transition as he made several full length passes that led to layups. He is a high-major prospect and in the conversation for the #1 overall spot in the 2020 class in Illinois.
SG Nimari Burnett (Mac Irvin Fire 15U)
Burnett was a lights out shooter from the perimeter on Saturday. At this point in his development he is a standout shooter from three. Smooth release from deep with great arc on it. He was on fire hitting many off the catch. His attacking game and passing will need to take the next step for him to be the player that he can be, but he has the time and potential for that to most likely come true. Burnett mixed in a couple transition scores and a put back. He had 18 points against The Family. Potential high-major prospect.
PG Adam Miller (Mac Irvin Fire 15U)
Miller is a big left handed point guard with great size and athleticism for the lead guard spot. He is more of a scoring guard at this stage in the process. Started off cold bricking a couple threes, but then he got rolling. Most of his points came by blowing past his defenders and getting to the rim. Explosive burst off the bounce that allows him to get past any defender. Plus handles. Streaky shooter as that will need to make strides for him to reach his full potential. Miller is a high-major prospect and in the running for the #1 spot in Illinois.
SF Isaiah Jackson (The Family 15U)
Only saw this Michigan 2020 prospect play once, but the 6’6” forward has out of this world upside! He has broad shoulders, long arms, and a nice frame. Super quick and athletic around the rim. Explosive second jump in the paint. Scored with a variety of quick moves from the mid-post including runners and acrobatic finishes. Plus rebounder and has defensive versatility. High-major player.
