Recruiting Report: Odell Wilson (2018)
Minneapolis North won a second straight state title this winter at the Class A level and it was the second time the Polars did so with immovable Odell Wilson manning the paint.
Wilson averaged 17 points and 10.1 rebounds a game this year putting up a double-double on a nightly basis. Wilson made 54 percent of his field goals this season.
“I grew a lot developing more of a leader role,” Wilson said about his senior year. “I will always remember how it feels to make a team turn into a family.”
What does a guy do to get better from a double-double average season? Wilson will enter his senior year as a leader. Isaac Johnson and Jaquan Sanders-Smith graduated so there is a leadership role that must be filled.
To fill that void Wilson wants to pick up some of their production. What ways does he want to do that?
“I’m working on getting in better shape, working on a consistent mid range shot, and working on improving my vertical,” Wilson said. “My goal is to improve on my weaknesses.”
Wilson is hearing from basketball programs but he was also a key member of the outstanding Minneapolis North football team. Wilson plays on the offensive line for the Polars and his play has led to football and basketball interest.
“In basketball I’m hearing from Nebraska-Omaha and Yale,” Wilson said. “A couple more who will contact Larry McMenzie my senior year but low major d1 and a couple mid majors.
In football I’m hearing from Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Indiana, Wyoming, Minnesota, Howard, and Iowa.”
