Recruiting Report: Myles Baker (2019)
Whitney Young 2019 shooting guard Myles Baker is one of the top wing prospects in his class. He has size and a smooth scoring game. Baker can score effectively at all three levels. Athleticism and quickness off the bounce allow him to get to the rack and is a factor in transition. Potential to be a very good jump shooter. Plus right now from mid-range with the chance to extend range in the future. Baker is running with Chicago Select 16U this spring and was on a state championship team for Whitney Young as a sophomore. We caught up with the talented 2019 to chat about the title run!
“We struggled in the beginning. We had a couple losses to Kenwood and Simeon. Then we came out strong in the Proviso West Championship and beat Morgan Park. After we lost to Simeon in the city final four we started to click together and playing and got it together. At state we won. The experience at state was surreal. It was a once in a lifetime experience. That was the biggest stage I ever played on.”
Although he is a top 10 prospect in the state he played more of a reserve role for the talented Dolphins squad.
“I think I was a key role player. I came in and played some huge minutes and affected the game in the right way.”
What are his goals with Chicago Select this spring and summer on the 16U level?
“I want to have a winning record. I want to get recognized as a team and hopefully get in the EYBL. Individually I am trying to pick up some offers.”
A pair of high majors are showing interest.
“My dad has been in contact with Wisconsin and Cal.”
He says he plans on taking a visit to California during the summer.
“They keep up with me every month.”
Wisconsin is also monitoring him.
“They come to my games during the live period. They said if I keep working I will be pretty nice.”
