Recruiting Report: Mason Larson (2018)
Six-foot-7 Langford Area forward Mason Larson led his team to a state tournament with a 23-3 record and PHD caught up with Larson today to chat about hoops.
“Honestly this season I just grew tougher and honestly more experienced,” Larson said. “I had to deal with a lot of adversity but it still was an amazing year.
“I will always remember my assistant coach who passed away from cancer a few short months after the season. He left an ever lasting impact on my life.”
Inspired by the adversity and playing with a heavy heart Larson scored 17.4 points per game grabbing seven boards a night and dishing out 3.7 assists per game. Mason led his team in scoring, rebounding, blocks, and threes made. And he’s only getting better.
“I’m really just hoping to grow tougher and stronger and work on my consistency,” Mason said. “I want to be able to be at my best night in and night out.”
This weekend Larson and the Dakota Schoolers take part in the SPTS final at the Sanford Pentagon. Larson is playing for the Schoolers 17U team for the second straight year.
“Everyone is good that we play,” Larson said. “No matter who we’ve played if we aren’t on the top of our game they have the ability to knock us off.
“It’s a good challenge and honestly the type of games I love cause it helps you grow as a player so much and close competitive games are always fun.”
Mason has the skills, size, and versatility to play basketball at the college level. Schools in the Northern Sun have watched Mason consistently and Larson has also heard from a few of the area D1s.
“I’ve visited a few schools already in the past year and am looking at visiting more mostly out of the NSIC and a few Summit League schools,” Mason said.
“For the rest of the summer I really just want to go out and improve as much as I can and get as many college looks that I can get. Try to set myself up for the most success in the rest of my career.”
