Recruiting Report: Martin Macenis (2019)
Stagg 2019 6’5” small forward Martin Macenis has a European type game on the wing. Smooth handles with long strides. Likes to use euro step in the lane to finish. Very skilled wing that works well around screens as a passer, driver, and jump shooter. One of his more impressive plays was a shot fake, allowing his man to fly by, and then finished with a one dribble pull up. Ability to knock down threes off the catch with a bit of a long release. Lots of arc on shot. Defensively he is an underrated player. Moves well laterally and his length allows him to get deflections. Had a few impressive blocks recovering. Macenis is a low-major prospect with mid-major upside.
Macenis broke down his sophomore year at Stagg.
“It was ok. We could have done better. We ended up losing to Marian Catholic. I thought that we could have beat them. I was sort of like a role player this past season. Not a lot of scoring. Next year I will do more scoring for our team.”
He talked about some of the areas he feels he can improve.
“Offensively be quicker and stronger with the ball. Be more aggressive.”
Macenis spoke about the strengths of his game.
“Shoot the three ball and I can stretch the floor. Quickness.”
He runs with ET21 Buckeyes on the grassroots circuit. This is definitely a prospect that you should keep an eye on as his stock is going up with a strong start to the spring!
