Recruiting Report: Kani Acree (2018)
Kani Acree is a 6’4” small forward from Carbondale. The 2018 wing is coming off a strong junior campaign and looking to make noise this spring with Team RWA on the circuit. The strength of his game has become his mid-range. Used to not be the greatest shooter, but with a lot of work in the gym he is starting to be very consistent with his shot pulling up from 15-18 feet. Same consistency on the three ball isn’t quite there yet. Acree is a good transition player that also gets to the charity stripe a fair amount. Solid wing passer. Upside as a defender with his physical tools, but needs to lock in on that end every possession. Potential low-major/high D2 prospect.
Acree teams up with Darius Beane for a dynamic 1-2 punch at Carbondale. He talked about his junior season with the Terriers.
“We did good actually. We got upset by Benton in regionals which is a game we should have won, but we are coming back next year stronger than ever.”
Where has he seen the biggest improvements in his game over the last year?
“My shooting ability. I am knocking down a lot more shots. I have been in the gym working with my brother who has been helping me with my form. I am knocking down more shots than ever.”
The Carbondale wing is running with Chicago based Team RWA on the circuit this spring.
“Playing with them is getting me stronger and helping my basketball IQ. I think I did good during the two live periods. I got my first offer from Chicago State. I think I have been playing to the best of my ability.”
He was pretty excited to get the Chicago State offer.
“It was a great feeling. I have been waiting for an offer for a while. It is good to see one come through. I don’t know much yet, but me and the coaches are scheduling a visit.”
Acree says Western Illinois is another school that has expressed interest in his services.
