Recruiting Report: Harlond Beverly (2019)
With great size and a developed skill-set, Michigan’s 12th-ranked 2019 Harlond Beverly is already being targeted by some low to high-major Division I programs.
The 6-foot-4 Southfield Christian point guard is currently playing his 16U season, and hopes by summer’s end he can turn his current light interest into serious interest.
“I have some interest from some Big Ten schools, like Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa. And I have some interest from some mid-majors like Oakland and Detroit. And overall this spring has been a lot of fun; we’re (REACH Legends) winning a lot of games,” said Beverly, who detailed exactly what the interest has been.
“It’s been letters and they’ve been coming to open gyms and watching us work out.”
At 6-foot-4, Beverly is one of the bigger point guards in the Midwest, and he says he’s equally adept at getting into the paint and hitting from outside.
“I feel like I’m a pretty good passer and I shoot pretty well,” he said. “I really like to pick-and-roll with my big-man, and I’m good at getting to the hole and kicking out to shooters.”
He says the part about being 6-foot-4 is his ability to confidently score in the paint.
“I use (my height) when I get to the rim,” said Beverly. “When I get down there I don’t really feel like I’m that small compared to the big men, so it makes it easier to finish.”
As a sophomore with Southfield Christian he averaged 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists, helping Eagles to the state semifinals.
“My job was to rebound, play defense, and when I get it, go,” said Beverly. “And then try and get everyone involved, and knock-down buckets when I was open.”
Now he’s playing with REACH Legends 16U, during what will be a very important grassroots season for him.
“Right now I’m just working everyday to get better,” said Beverly. “I’m trying to see how much I can improve as a player, and see how far that can take me.”
