Louisiana’s 29th-ranked 2018, Comeaux point guard Ferontay Banks has been hearing some from a slew of Division I schools lately, and has a big summer ahead to showcase exactly what he can do on the court.
The 6-foot junior had a nice spring playing New Orleans Elite 17U, and of the list of interested schools, there are two he says are talking with him the most.
Banks mentioned Southeastern, University of Dallas, University of Louisiana, Northwestern State, LIU-Brooklyn and Southern as schools that have reached out.
“I would Northwestern State and Southeastern are the two I’ve heard from the most,” he said.
“I’m going to try my best to get coaches to like me and the way I play, offensively and defensively. Hopefully they look at me as a good point guard and I get something (this summer).”
The talented floor general defined his game as a slashing guard with a solid jumper.
“My strength is ball-handling and attacking the rim,” he said. “I just have to finish better when I get to the rim. I can shoot it, and I’m going to knock it down if the opponent lets me.
His junior season wrapped up a couple months ago with the Spartans, and he says his goal this summer is to prepare himself to be much better next year as a senior.
“My junior year was OK, but it could have been way better. Next year I’m going to give it my all, bring out everything I have in me,” said Banks. “My role this year was to attack the rim and score when I needed to score. And just to help us get wins.”
In the meantime, he’s looking forward to the rest of the spring and summer with NOLA Elite 17U.
“My goal is to just make sure I’m way better next year than I was this year,” said Banks.” And I need to help us get wins, play defense, score, help others score, and hopefully there’s coaches around so they can see it.”
