Recruiting Report: Dwight Simon (2018)
Louisiana’s 30th-ranked 2019, 6-foot-7 power forward Dwight Simon is looking to boost his stock with college coaches this spring and summer.
So far his recruitment has been minimal; with one in-state program showing lukewarm interest, and some other initial letters.
“I’ve talked to Northwestern State, so I think they have a little interest, but that’s really the only school,” said Simon.
“I get letters from Northwestern State, I’ve gotten some from Indiana State and I got one from LA Tech.”
A grit guy for Peabody, Simon says he likes to do the dirty work on the floor, and considers himself a defensive stopper.
“Just bringing a lot of energy and getting second half points is what I do, and just crashing the boards 24/7,” said Simon.
“I want to work on my jump-shot a little bit more, and my ball-handling, and then I think I’ll have a better season next year.”
He was great this past winter as a junior while helping the Warhorses to a 3A state championship.
“I brought my defensive mentality by taking charges, getting blocks, not letting teams get second chance points and allowing our team to get second chance points,” he said. “I played the dirty role and played physical and we won a state championship, so it was good.”
Now, he’s spending his spring and summer with Southwest Louisiana Blazers 17U, and is playing with a handful of his high school teammates on that squad.
“I’m playing with a lot of my teammates on that team, we just wanted to get our chemistry up for next year. And I just want to get better individually, so that we can get better as a unit next season on Peabody,” said Jones.
“Really, I’m just looking to get better as a person and a player, and just getting to the next level is my goal.”
