Recruiting Report: Deng Reng (2019)
Class of 2019 forward Deng Reng stands at 6’6” out of Wheaton North. The forward has a lot of intriguing qualities in his game. The first is his size, length, and athleticism for the wing position. Definitely will need to add strength going forward, but the 2019 prospect has time for that. At times he struggles finishing at the rim through contact because of his lack of strength. On the plus side he can handle it for a wing being able to put it on the deck a few times slashing from the wing. Flashes a feathery jump shot that he can stretch out to three on occasion. Quality free throw shooter. Defensively has the ability to defend multiple positions and moves well laterally. Areas to work on are strength and consistent aggressiveness. He is going to be a scholarship player. Development over next two years will determine if that is D1 or D2.
Reng was a big part of a quality Wheaton North squad this past season.
“It went well. We won the sectional championship and then lost to Naperville North. Overall the whole team did really well. I played well, but could have done better and contributed more.”
He feels there were several areas he improved as a player.
“Shooting is one of the main ones. Also defense and getting boards.”
The forward spoke about the intangibles he brings to the table.
“I am very energetic and a hustle player.”
What is he looking forward to this spring with ET21 Buckeyes 16U?
“Winning every tournament we can. My role is being a leader and pushing my teammates to be the best they can be.”
Nothing going on with recruiting at this stage in the process. Expect that to change as the spring and summer goes on.
