Recruiting Report: Dabreon Mitchell (2018)
Dabreon Mitchell had a nice season with Renton this past winter, and the 6-foot-3 guard has seen a couple Northwest D1s come after him because of it.
“I’ve been talking to Eastern Washington a lot, they’ve come to some of my games and invited me to take a tour out there. Also they invited me to their individual camp this offseason,” said Mitchell.
“Also I have Idaho University, they’re really interested in me. Those are the only two schools on me so far.”
A slasher and distributor, Mitchell — Washington’s 75th-ranked 2018 — defined his playing style to PHWA.
“My strengths are that I can get to the basket easy, I’m a combo-guard, and a pass-first guard. I like to get my teammates in the game, and make them better,” said Mitchell.
“My defensive game needs to be better, not my man defense, but just talking and communicating batter.”
As a junior with Renton, Mitchell was pleased with his individual play, but was disappointed in the team’s early exit from the playoffs.
“Junior season went OK, but it could’ve been better. We got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs,” he said. “I had a good season though, I averaged 12 points, 4 assists and 8 rebounds.”
Now, he’s spending his 17U offseason with Northwest Prospects.
“It’s a good program, I’m one of the leaders of the team. We’re doing good so far, we’ve only played in two tournaments,” he said.
“I hope to pick up a lot more recruitment during this AAU season, and hopefully I can commit somewhere after the summer AAU season.”
