Recruiting Report: Colton Sandage (2018)
Bloomington junior Colton Sandage is a 6’3” two guard from Bloomington that really impressed at the Nike Spring Showdown. He is known as a marksmen from deep. The 2018 prospect is a plus shooter from three off the catch. Quick release and consistent accuracy. Can really fill it up from beyond the arc. There is more to his game than just that! Sandage has gotten better with his ball handling and his athleticism continues to improve. That was shown on a posterizing dunk that had everyone in attendance asking ‘where did that come from?’ Sandage is an underrated passer that makes good reads within the flow of the offense. Capable defender that competes on that end. Put himself on the D2 radar with a strong performance.
Sandage was part of a deep Bloomington team that made it to the 3A state final four!
“It was crazy. It was what we dreamed of all year and it came true. We worked all summer to get to that point and when we got there it was surreal. I played pretty well. My defense really improved. That is what I really wanted to focus on. Now work on getting to the hoop and making layups.”
What areas of his game does he feel he has improved the most?
“Definitely my athleticism. I have been in the weight room a lot. Also my off the dribble game.”
Shooting is his top strength, but he has a couple of other areas he feels he excels.
“I think my passing is really underrated by people along with my defense.”
What schools are involved with his recruitment?
“I have heard from Lindenwood, NAIA Ottawa, and Olivet Nazarene.”
He says Lindenwood has made him feel like a priority.
“Lindenwood right now said they are really interested in me. They don’t have a scholarship available right now, but they are really interested in me. I really like Coach Dana Morgan. I haven’t visited yet, but I like how I am a priority to them.”
Olivet Nazarene was on hand during the live period to track him as well.
“They keep up with me and contact me a lot. They tell me a lot about the program.”
What will he be looking for in a hoops program?
“The style of play. I like to get up and down like at Bloomington.”
Sandage is also being recruited by several colleges for football as he is a standout quarterback.
“Right now I am hearing from both sports. I am keeping from all opens open.”
Sandage runs with Team Illinois 17U on the circuit.
