Recruiting Report: Clay Gayman (2018)
Coming off a big junior season for Nevada, 2018 forward Clay Gayman is carrying that success over to the spring circuit with the KC Pacers.
A tough, hard-nosed 6’6 forward, Gayman can bang in the paint, defend several different positions, but is also skilled enough to step out and knock down perimeter jumpers.
“I am a tough player who never backs down from a challenge,” he says. “My job is to go 100 percent the whole time I am in the game.”
Nevada finished the 2016-17 23-4 and had an 18-game winning streak late in the season.
“I grew to be a lot more mature over the course of this season,” he says. “That was probably my biggest stride.”
This spring, Gayman has had a big run with the Pacers, which features several Kansas City area standouts, including Diego Bernard from St. Joe Lafayette and Park Hill forward Cecil Lee among others.
“My spring experience with the KC Pacers has been amazing,” Gayman said. “I can’t thank the coaches enough for all that they do for me and my teammates. I expect to knock off a lot of big names this summer.”
Gayman says his dad has had the biggest impact on his basketball career.
“He drives me to practice, rebounds for me, plays with me, and always pushes me to become better than I was the day before,” he says.
Gayman says the Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard is his favorite player to watch play.
“He is the most humble player I have ever seen,” Gayman said. “He is, in my opinion the best two way player in the game and has the build to wreak havoc for opposing teams.”
Gayman currently holds numerous NCAA Division II offers, including Lindenwood University, Pittsburgh State University, Missouri Science and Technology and Missouri Southern State University.
