Recruiting Report: Brian Conaghan (2018)
New Trier 2018 point guard Brian Conaghan stands at 6’2” and is a tough kid. He can really shoot the ball from the perimeter. Plus shooter with a quick release from three. Best off the catch. Not afraid to mix it up and dive after loose balls. He will be a very good small college player at the next level.
Conaghan spoke about the strengths in his game.
“I am just trying to hit open shots. Set up the offense and lead our team. Always be tough on defense and rebound. That is what I try to do to help the team.”
How was his junior year at New Trier?
“We had some chemistry issues. I battled some injuries. We played well in the playoffs and toward the end of the year, but we have some work to go for next year.”
He runs with Hoops4Health on the grassroots circuit and enjoys playing with those guys.
“It is a great group of guys. We are all unselfish and pass the ball. Not like a lot of these AAU team that play street ball. We run our offense and are really scrappy on D. We are undersized, but we can be a heck of a team going forward. We are all competitive and do whatever it takes to win.”
The New Trier junior told us what his role is on the team.
“As a point guard setting up the offense and making sure everyone is in the right spot. On defense going at it and creating havoc. Hitting threes and having some good takes.”
A few small colleges have reached out.
“Some D3 emails. Rhodes College in Memphis, Macalester in Minnesota, and a lot of others.”
What will he be looking for in a school?
“Good academics and team basketball. A good location and has nice weather. I want to major in business.”
