Prospect Spotlight: Xavier Dusell (2020)
Xavier Dusell
In a 2020 class that features Nico Mannion and Jason Harris, both very well known prospects, it is Xavier Dusell that is making a name for himself this Spring. Playing with Team Harden in the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet, he is turning in some impressive performances. With great size for his position (6’4″), he is able to be a problem for opposing teams on both ends of the floor.
Breakdown
A natural scorer, “X” has always been able to get to his spots and elevate over smaller defenders and knock down shots. Showing an improved handle, he looks comfortable running the point now. Dusell is able to break his defender down and get to the rim, where he can either finish or find the open man against a collapsed defense. He shoots it effortlessly with great range and can put up points in bunches. On the defensive end, his length allows him to guard multiple positions. He shows flashes of great athleticism, but it is often disguised by his gliding movements. As with all players, there is still room for improvement. A lanky, young player, Xavier can stand to get stronger, which will help him finish at the rim as he moves up in age.
Next Level
Only an upcoming Sophomore, the Mesquite High School product has already began receiving mid-major and high-major interest. His improvement from the school season to this point has been quite impressive. The understudy of former Arizona high school standout, and Arizona State University guard Christian Polk, he is learning the game at a high level mentally. He projects as a combo guard who will give a program a large deal of versatility on both ends. Assuming he stays on this development curve, along with natural growth, Dusell looks to be another high major prospect in a top heavy 2020 class. The class also includes Tosh Baker, along with the aforementioned Mannion and Harris. As Team Harden becomes more established, as the highest level shoe sponsored team in Arizona, it is exciting to imagine the possibilities of what is to come.
