Prospect Spotlight: Kobe Bonner (2018)
An active player at both ends of the court, Topeka Seaman 2018 Kobe Bonner is putting together a strong spring for the Kansas Hoggs.
A 5’10 point guard, Bonner is a true point guard with a high basketball IQ who loves to pass but can also score as well.
This past season he says he got in the weight room and improved his strength which he says has helped him compete against bigger guards. He helped Seaman go 14-8 this past season and the Vikings advanced to the substate championship.
To date, the Kansas Hoggs have played in two tournaments, the Midwest Live and the Jayhawk Invitational.
“My plans are to get stronger/better and continue to play against the top competition, go to a few camps, and to get interest and offers from colleges,” Booner said. “The one team I would love to have the opportunity to play against is KC Run GMC because they are one of the top teams around my area.”
Bonner says his dad has been the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“He is my coach so he always makes sure I’m doing the right thing,” Bonner said. “He always has me in the gym getting shots up and gives me good advice when I need it. He encourages me to get better and always keep my grades up”
A fan of Kyrie Irving, Bonner says he appreciates the Cleveland Cavs’ handles and has tried to copy some of his moves.
“Growing up I watched videos showing how Kyrie got his handles so I’ve followed those videos to try and increase my handle,” Bonner said.
Bonner said several NCAA Division II coaches have inquired throughout the spring.
