Prospect Spotlight: Ken West (2019)
After an All-League sophomore season, Bellevue Christian’s versatile forward Ken West is ready to showcase himself this spring and summer with Northwest Prospects.
The 6-foot-6 combo-forward was sensational last winter with the Vikings, and explained exactly what it is that makes him such a threat.
“I’m more of an offensive player, and I can play positions one through five. And I’m pretty good at blocking shots on the defensive end; I stay in front of guys well and have a good vertical for my height. I’m athletic for my size and I can stay in front of guys pretty well,” said West.
“I’m more comfortable doing stuff out on the perimeter, but I can do some damage in the post as well.”
West started on varsity as a sophomore, averaging 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game, helping him earn All-League honors.
“I usually led the team in scoring and rebounding, they really needed me to help carry the scoring load,” said West, who’s now playing up in the 17U division with Northwest Prospects.
“There’s a lot of other athletic players on that team, and a lot of my teammates are getting looked at by colleges, which really helps my stock,” he said. “And all of the guys are grinding and trying to get better every time they step on the floor, which is a good vibe to have.”
Though he’s just a sophomore, the young and versatile prospect has an idea of where he’d like to further his education and basketball careers.
“This summer I’m going down to California and we’re going to look at colleges. I haven’t really looked at specific colleges but I know that’s the general area that I want to go down to,” said West.
“I want to play down there because I really like the weather, and just the vibe down there is a lot more positive (than in Washington). It’s always really appealing to me when I go down there.”
