The Southeast Minnesota Lightning might stand out thanks to their plethora of talented big men. One of their top guards is Jared Landherr.
The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 17.5 points per game while knocking down 36 percent of his 3-pointers as a junior at Southland and is one of the leading scorers for Southeast Minnesota Lightning so far in the AAU season.
“Our record has been pretty average so far but things have been going pretty good,” said Landherr. “I missed out last year with an injury so I’m catching up a little bit but I think things have been going well for us.”
Landherr isn’t the biggest or most explosive guy on the court but he’s got a great understanding of how to get to the spots on the floor where he can be most effective and he’s a strong finisher in traffic despite not possessing great height.
“I think for my size I’m a pretty good finisher at the rim,” said Landherr. “I’m pretty quick off the dribble and my 3-point shot has gotten better. I’ve been playing a lot more man-to-man full court defense and I think I’ve improved a lot in that area. Trying to improve in halfcourt defense and being stronger and more physical with guys.”
Landherr is hoping that he can continue helping the Lightning compete consistently in tournaments and that his play can earn him some interest from colleges as he’s hoping to play hoops at the next level.
“As a team we just want to keep winning and getting into championship brackets,” said Landherr. “And hopefully I can play well and draw some more interest. Trying to get more notice at this point; that’s a big goal.”
