Jae'Lyn Withers
One of Charlotte's all-time best high school basketball players, Curtis Withers attended West Charlotte High School. After graduating he had a stellar career at UNC-Charlotte and then embarked on a lengthy career overseas.
His son, Jae'lyn Withers is a rising junior at North Mecklenburg High School, also in Charlotte and is making quite the name for himself as well. Withers is playing this summer with Team Loaded NC on the Adidas Gauntlet series and is averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds on the circuit. "The AAU season is going great now that I am back with Team Loaded NC," he said. "I am looking forward to going to Vegas this summer (with Team Loaded NC)."
Withers currently is ranked as the 11th best prospect in the PrepHoopsNC 2019 class rankings. He is on pace to move up quite a bit when the rankings are released again this month.
His recruitment has really started to take a big step forward. "I am hearing from a lot of schools so far this summer, some that come to mind are Virginia Tech, NC State, App State, Charlotte (all offered) and I am getting interest from Wake Forest, Clemson, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Georgetown."
Having a father who played basketball at one of the highest levels (long career overseas) Withers knows that there is a long way to go to get to that level. "I feel like the main thing I need to improve on is my strength because I am extremely versatile on offense and I can guard multiple positions on defense and my handle could get a little tighter," he said.
His game is speaking for itself and Withers is becoming one of the Queen City's top underclassmen products. My versatility and shooting ability are the best parts of my game, I shoot the ball extremely well for my height, and I can play any position from 1-4, he said. My aggressiveness has really improved since the high school season and I am mentally becoming more of a scorer.
