Prospect Spotlight: Clarence King (2019)
Clarence King, a talented 2019 lead guard, brings a strong, physical frame and a diverse skill set to the court this past season for Lawrence and now this spring for KC Run GMC.
Listed at 6’1, King is a very aggressive guard who is not afraid to attack the basket and prides himself on being a good teammate.
King says his game has grown over the past year as he spent the season in the gym working on his game as he earned a starting role for a team that advanced to the Kansas 6A state tournament in Wichita this past year.
That play has carried over the spring for Run GMC, an Under Armour affiliated squad that is competing at a high level.
“My start for my AAU team was pretty great,” King said. “I feel like I should start but that doesn’t change how I’m going to play. And I expect this summer to be another undefeated season and get some offers of games.”
King says his dad has had the biggest impact on his game.
“After the games he tells me what I did good and then he tells me what I should work on,” King said. “I look up to my father and listen to his opinions.”
On the court, King says he enjoys watching Boston Celtics guard Isiah Thomas play.
“He’s fearless to go to the basket,” King said. “That tells me if he can do then I can do it. And I also watch moves that he does that I can add to my game.”
Although he currently doesn’t hold any offers, King has heard from several schools, including NCAA Division I Tulsa University.
