Prospect Spotlight: Carter Murray (2019)
Washougal 5-foot-10 point guard Carter Murray was a sixth-man for the Panthers last winter as a sophomore, and used his season to showcase his sharpshooting ability.
A confident shooter who flashes a quick release in his highlight video below, Murray says his best skill-set is his ability to shoot the rock.
“I’m a really good shooter, so I’ll try and get my guys going when I set up the offense, and then I like to spot up in the corner and the other guys will find me,” said the sophomore guard.
“I can handle the ball a lot, and playing defense is a strong ability for me to, especially on-ball because I’m fast and I can stay in front of my guy.”
This past winter during high school ball, Murray was was the first guy off the bench. He says though his role was minimal, he played it well.
“My role was playing backup point guard, and I was expected to just knock-down open shots. I didn’t need to score 20 a game or anything like that, because I was a role player.”
This spring and summer, he’s playing with a talented group on an Iron Athletic Sixers 16U squad.
“So far it’s been going really good, I start sometimes and play with some of the best kids from my area,” he said. “I’m probably averaging like 14-15 points per game and hitting my 3s.”
Just a sophomore, there’s a ton to speak of in terms of recruitment. But he has been proactive already, and also has an in with his grassroots coach.
“I’ve been emailing coaches myself, but haven’t heard a whole lot back yet,” said Murray.
“Our coach for our Sixers team used to play at the University of Portland, and he’s scouted and things like that. And he says he’s going to talk to some coaches there about me, and try and get me to their elite camp.”
