Prospect Spotlight: Caleb Bowers (2020)
2020 Combo-Guard, Caleb Bowers, is a dynamic scoring threat that is making a name for his young self in Western Maryland. Bowers of Hagerstown, MD is currently playing for Adidas Team St8ment on the circuit, and also plays for perennial 2A West force, Williamsport High, and made solid contributions as a freshman on varsity for a solid program.
The 6’0 guard is currently playing up at the 16U level for Team St8ment out of DC mainly playing on the Powerade series circuit. Previously playing for the D.C. Bluedevils, Caleb is willing to work and travel in order to sling shot himself in the recruiting market and improve his game this season. Bowers describes this current grassroots team as “a very intense and solid group of kids who all have the same goal of making it to the next level”.
Caleb describes himself as a “ Quick combo guard who can handle and distribute when needed, but naturally a pure scorer. As one of the top shooters I have seen in the 2020 class, Bowers has a natural stroke from deep, which can be seen in his highlights.
As for high school ball, Bowers says he had “An overall great freshman year producing scoring, shooting, and intense solid defense” for the 2A west sectional champion Wildcats. Williamsport Coach, Ryan Grabill, spoke very highly of the freshman, who he expects great things to come from over the next 3 years. Grabill says “He has very good handles, can get to the rim, sees the floor well and can stroke it” and calls him by far the best shooter on the team as a freshman, while seeing solid minutes even with 3 senior guards on the team averaging double digit points. As Bowers adjusted to the varsity level, he progressed every game and was named to the Richard E. Doub All Tournament Team. Grabill seems very excited about this young player, and with extra time in the weight room expects Caleb to expand his game and be an expected starting guard next season for the ‘Cats.
In terms of playing at the next level, Bowers is looking to play at the Division 1 level. He says that he has began to receive some interest from several D1 programs. Caleb states that he has all his options currently open but is looking for “a great coach and a great education program” in his choice.
As the hard working and ambitious guard is always looking to improve, he currently focuses on his pull up and creating at the rim, as well as hitting the weight room. This time last year, Caleb says he primarily worked on his shot and 3 ball, which has clearly paid dividends for the knockdown shooter, leading his teams in 3’s made.
Caleb Bowers is very determined young man, who seems very excited about getting his name out there for all to see. The 6’0 guard is a young player, ready to prove himself and wreck havoc in Washington County and anywhere he plays. With a work ethic, great high school coach, and natural stroke like his, the potential in him is limitless.
