Prep Hoops takes a look at some players from the 2017 class that still haven’t found a school for this coming fall in this article.
Mumin Tunc still needs to take care of some academic matters before moving onto a college next season. Tunc 7’2 and ranked #10 in the Prep Hoops Top 125 this past season should have a college in a week or two according to a close source to the situtation. Tunc has spent time in the past at IMG Academy (FL) and Trinity International School (NV). Tunc hails from Bursa, Turkey. Tunc played this past season at 22 Feet Academy.
Jalen Cameron recently visited Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC according to West Florence Head Coach Pete Ellis. Cameron who is ranked #16 in the Prep Hoops Top 125 had a great 4 year career for the Knights. Cameron averaged 17.5 ppg and 9.8 rebounds this season for the 20-6 Knights. Cameron a wing player finished his career with 1,530 points.
Damon McDowell didn’t have the senior season he wanted to at Carolina Forest HS. McDowell a left-handed sleek athlete played just over half the sseason before being dismissed from the squad. Carolina Forest HS Head Coach Brian Brunson told Prep Hoops that North Carolina Wesleyan and North Greenville have expressed interest in McDowell. McDowell could look to play this summer on the AAU circuit with Flight 22 Select. McDowell is ranked #40 in the Prep Hoops Top 125.
Greg Archie has attended 3 schools over the past 3 years. Archie a left-handed guard played this spring with the Premier Jammers. Archie played his senior season at Oceanside Collegiate Academy in McClellanville. Archie averaged 14.3 ppg, 4.2 assists and 3.4 steals for the Landsharks. The Landsharks just started play this past season and were not eligible for post season play.
Jalen White is a bit of a late bloomer on the hardwood. White 6’1 guard played quarterback the past few seasons at Manning HS. White averaged 13.5 ppg this season for the Monarchs. White will need to entertain junior college. “White is a absolute junkyard dog on the floor and just brings great toughness and a will to win” said Prep Hoops Bret Swanson. White really doesn’t have a true position on the floor but is extremely athletic. White started his high school career at Lakewood HS before transferring over for the last two seasons at Manning HS.
Malik Cokley 6’0 recently graduated from Laurence Manning Academy in Manning. Cokley averaged 9.6 ppg and 3.7 assists this season for the Swampcats. Cokley a left-handed slashing guard really excels in the open court and a uptempo style of play. Cokley will need to entertain junior college.
Kareem Lawson came on late in the season for Lakewood HS. Lawson a off guard played just one season at Lakewood after moving over from nearby Sumter HS.
Keenan Norman will have to make a transition over to point guard from the off guard spot in college. Norman just 5’9 helped Dillon HS make it to the 3A State Championship Game before losing to Southside (Greenville). Norman really loves to shoot the ball from the corners. Norman averaged 16.2 ppg this season.
Jaquan Felton helped Marion HS to a 18-6 season this year. Felton averaged 17 ppg, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists this season. Felton was named Region 7-2A Player of the Year. Felton finished his high school career with 828 points. Felton has been playing AAU with Big Shots South Carolina this spring.
Jamal Stevens 5’10 undersized shooting guard averaged 16.2 this season for the Strom Thurmond HS (Johnston) Rebels. Stevens was a All-Region Performer. Stevens will need to entertain junior college according to Rebels Head Coach Bo Rouse.
Darius Copeland 6’3 is still looking for a school. Copeland was a All-Region Performer at North Augusta HS this season. Copeland averaged 12.5 ppg and 7.1 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. Copeland also was named MVP of the Savannah River Shootout. Copeland is a academic qualifier according to Yellow Jackets Head Coach Tony Harrell.
Johama Tisdale stands at 5’10 and attends C.E. Murray HS (Greeleyville). Tisdale left-handed point guard can really keep the ball low to the ground and find the open man. Tisdale was named Region 5 Player of the Year this season. Tisdale averaged 17.3 ppg and 3.8 assists for the War Eagles.
