Marqus Gilson Recruiting Report
6’5 W Marqus Gilson (Westlake/Salt Lake Rebels)
Marqus Gilson has been an interesting prospect that has shown promise when placed in the right places on the court. Gilson is a 6’5 W that was forced to play a lot of Center for his high school team that often put him with his back to the basket, were he was able to figure out ways to score. Marqus flourished when he was able to slash to the basket and run in the open court. Marqus was able to put up 11 points and haul in 4 rebounds a game while playing in the toughest region in the state. In half of his games he was able to score in double figures. Although he only hit one 3-pointer all year Marqus can stretch the floor with his ability to shoot the long ball and the mid-rage jumper. Marqus is an underrated defender that will only get better with time.
The 6’5 W who is a qualifier had many D2 schools and D3 school’s interested in him coming on campus but Marqus has decided to sign with Centrailia College, WA were he will play in the NWAC.
Coach Evric Gray, who has coached Marqus for 4 years on the Salt Lake Rebels speaks highly of Gilson. “Centralia will get a smart player on and off the court who will be a good teammate that can play multiple positions.”
The Trailblazers will get a player that can play the 3-5 position wise but Marqus will excel in a position-less system where he will be able to play more of a stretch wing that can do multiple things. Marqus not only plays great pick-n-roll defense he does well playing a pick-n-roll game. There is a lot of upside for Marqus, especially if he commits to the weight-room.
