Intro: Amir Spann (2020)
Mt. Vernon 2020 Amir Spann is a prospect that we saw play some during the high school team where he mostly played on the JV squad in which he was a standout along with seeing a little tick for varsity. The 2020 6’3” shooting guard has solid size and strength at a young age. Should grow a couple more inches which will give him ideal height for his position at the college level. Best playing off his raw athleticism. Makes plays in the open floor as a finisher. Passes it well in the half court making quick dishes to his post players. Rebounds well for his position with plus bounce. Defensive potential long term once he learns to lock in on that end of the floor.
How was his freshman season?
“It didn’t go exactly how I planned. I thought I was going to play more. Overall we finished well and had a good season. We are looking to build next year.”
He spoke with PHI about being the man on the JV team and how that will help his long term development.
“It felt good because next year it will help me be used to having the ball in my hands a lot. Scoring and facilitating. I liked having that freedom and being able to control things a little bit.”
Spann spoke about his game and what he feels he brings to the table.
“Versatile. I can play whatever coach wants me to play. I have been told I am coachable. I love to play the game that I love.”
He is running with Ramey-Jets United 15U this spring/summer. What are his goals?
“I am looking forward to winning championships, building, and hopefully getting a national ranking.”
