Grassroots : Big Shots-Rock Hill Palmetto players
Prep Hoops SC was one on the road again this weekend for AAU action. Prep Hoops SC took in the Big Shots-Rock Hill Tourney at York Comprehensive HS. Here is a look at some players from the Palmetto State that stood out today.
Ryan Carfley (2018) Marion HS – Big Shots South Carolina
Carfley was on loan for the weekend after playing in the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit with Garner Road. Carfley 6’9 runs the floor well but still needs to finish better in traffic. Carfley can step-out on the perimeter and face-up from 15-18 feet.
Dontarius James (2018) Andrew Jackson (Kershaw) – Team United NC EYBL
James seems to get better every time out. James has been playing with the South Carolina Supreme on the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit. James was just a man inside the paint today finishing at will around the cup and he also stepped out some and knockdown baseline jumpers. James 6’7 has great skills and passes the ball like a guard at times.
Robert Braswell (2018) Blythewood HS – Team United NC EYBL
Braswell 6’9 has joined up with Team United NC after playing the past few season with the G.W.P. Sixers AAU team. Braswell has received offers this spring from Stetson, James Madison, Old Dominion, Charlotte and South Carolina State. Braswell a military kid moved into Blythewood in February 2015. Braswell has great skill on the perimeter and prefers to play face-up.
Trey McGowens (2018) Wren HS (Piedmont) – Team United NC EYBL (pictured on front)
McGowens 6’3 is a very talented guard who already has over 20 scholarship offers this season. McGowens helped Wren HS to the 4A State Championship game this season. Wofford, Florida Gulf Coast, Towson, Charlotte, USC Upstate, Tennessee Tech,Southern Mississippi, Arkansas State, Rice, William & Mary, Boston University, Elon, Appalachian State, Western Carolina, Mercer are just some of the offers this spring for McGowens.
McGowens averaged 18.3 ppg, 6.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 steals this season for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes finished the season at 23-5. McGowens who has great size for a guard is a really good defender on the ball and excels open floor. McGowens hit several shots on the perimeter today and also attacked the basket quite easily.
Daniel Dunlap (2018) Cardinal Newman – South Carolina Kings 11th Grade
Dunlap helped the South Carolina Kings stay close today here vs the High Point Havoc despite playing with just 5 guys today. Dunlap really excels in the open floor game with his athleticism. Dunlap has good explosion to the rim and was able to hit some shots on the perimeter today.
Deandre Bryan (2019) Berkeley HS (Moncks Corner) – Charleston Strong
Bryan is a unknown player outside of Berkeley county in the Low Country. Bryan didn’t put up huge numbers at all this weekend for the Charleston Strong team. Bryan 6’6 is a raw talent with great length and a endless motor on the floor. Bryan still has some time to develop for the future and could still be growing. Bryan works on both ends of the floor but still needs time to develop with constant individual attention.
