Around the State : Marion and Williamsburg Counties (2018)
Marion and Williamsburg Counties are inland off the coast. Williamsburg County is known for great BBQ especially Scott’s BBQ in Hemingway. Cooper’s General Store in Salters will set you back in time and also some great southern BBQ and country hams. Lets take a look at some of the best 2018 kids in this neck of the woods.
Ryan Carfley – Marion
Carfley 6’8 post player is running with Garner Road AAU out of Raleigh, NC on the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit. Carfley started his high school career at Creek Bridge HS before moving up the road to Marion HS. Carfley has a soft touch in the paint and always tends to keep the ball up high. Carfley averaged 8 ppg, 6.5 rebounds and 2 blocks for the Swamp Foxes.
BJ Blue – Marion
Blue a combo guard prefers to play off the ball. Blue needs time to set his feet and get his shot off. Blue averaged 9.2 ppg last season for the 18-6 Swamp Foxes.
TJ Fladger – Creek Bridge (Gresham)
Fladger has really grown the past few years from 5’6 to now 6’3. Fladger plays football and basketball at the tiny Marion County School. Fladger has a good feel for the game and size running the point guard position. Fladger played AAU ball this spring with the Carolina Stampede whenever they were playing. Fladger plays quarterback on the football team.
Quinton Alston – Kingstree (pictured on front)
Alston led the Jaguars in scoring last year at 17 ppg and 7.2 rebounds. Alston didn’t play AAU this spring and played baseball instead. Alston 6’4 (215) was a All-State performer this season. Alston has a nice pull-up jumper and can knockdown the 3 ball.
Jordan Cantey – Kingstree
Cantey 6’6 wing player loves to play and float on around on the perimeter. Cantey feels quite comfortable handling the ball or shooting the 3 ball. Cantey averaged 12.9 ppg and 5.8 rebounds last season for the Jaguars. Cantey played AAU this spring with the Upward Stars Southeast 2018.
Koby Fulton – Kingstree
Fulton 6’2 point is originally from New York City. Fulton a pure point guard dished out 4.3 assists last season. Fulton sees the floor and really can get the ball into the paint. Fulton is teaming up with Cantey and playing with the Upward Stars Southeast 2018. Kingstree HS has a great trio returning next season.
Tyrike Lewis – Hemingway
Lewis 6’3 will look to be the leader of this Tigers squad that graduated several players off a 1A State Championship team. Underclassmen Darius Taylor and Darius “JuJu” Williams will help Lewis in this role this season.
Darius Rush – C.E. Murray (Greeleyville)
Rush 6’3 wing will take his talents to the football field. Rush this spring committed to the University of South Carolina Gamecocks for football. Rush is a big-time athlete. Rush had 1,243 purpose yards last season.
Chase Murray – Williamsburg Academy (Kingstree)
Murray 5’9 started off his career at Low Country Prep (Pawley’s Island) before coming to the Stallions last season. Murray averaged 15 ppg last season. Murray has a bit of a old school game and really sees the floor well.
