Spring Jam Fest: Saturday Notebook Part 2
While the Spring Jam Fest continue to wrap up at Spooky Nook Sports today, we revisit another set of players who had solid showings from Saturday’s games.
Phil Smith | 2019 | Mid-Atlantic Select
Smith is a 6’4 wing that can do pretty much anything on the floor. He had a good tournament all weekend and led MAS to a 2-1 record. One win included a 50-points massacre against Rise as One 69-19. By the time Saturday concluded, Holy Cross and James Madison began expressing interest. Smith is best in the open floor whether it’s him pushing the ball or filling the lanes on the wing. In the game against Rise as One, Smith had four assists in the first six minutes of play by making the extra pass to the open man.
Jason Lewis | 2019 | Mid-Atlantic Select
Lewis couldn’t seem to miss this weekend as he averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per contest. Lewis was knocking down shots off catch-and-shoot opportunities, finishing floaters after 2-3 dribbles, and converting transitions lay ups. MAS has enough scorers as it is, but when Lewis is going as well, they’re a tough team to stop.
Dylin Borden | 2019 | Mid-Atlantic Select
Borden didn’t light the stat sheet up in the scoring column this particular tournament, but he does everything a point guard has to do in order for his team to be successful. Borden was efficient knocking down transition three’s as the trailer, but more importantly he had less than a handful of turnovers in the two days of play. If Smith wasn’t pushing the ball, it was Borden who sparked the fastbreak by getting the ball up the floor to the open man for an easy two.
Eyabi Anoma | 2018 | Randallstown Runnin’ Rebels
Anoma may be a household name to college football fans considering he is the No. 2 overall prospect in the class of 2018. The 6’5 235-pound defensive end was hard not to notice as he completely dominated the glass. Make no mistake, Anoma is a top-notch basketball talent as well. His 13-point performance was key in the Rebels double overtime victory against Positive Image.
Ugo Obasi | 2018 | Randallstown Runnin’ Rebels
Obasi is another coveted football recruit at the wide receiver position with over 20 Division I offers. He is an absolute sniper from deep and it came when the Rebels needed it most late in the game against Positive Image. Obasi finished with four three’s on the game and a total of 16 points in the win.
Kahssian Kay | 2018 | Positive Image
Kay was dominant in the game against the Rebels leading all scorers with 24 points. He displayed his toughness by continuously attacking the basket and finishing amongst the bigs with contact. The 5’9 point guard is explosive in his first step after performing a crossover or any move to create space from his match up.
Elochukwe Eze | 2018 | Florida Elite
Eze was an easy player to point out with a 6’10 frame and an already well-developed body. For most teams going against Florida Elite, he was simply too much on both ends. Eze was an enforcer by the basket hosting block parties in each contest. Offensively he hasn’t developed much of an outside game yet, but when he catches it on the block, Eze is good about using his size and creating angles for over the shoulder bank shots.
Myles Thompson | 2018 | South Jersey Select
The SJ Select had an epic match up against the York Ballers Saturday evening. Even though they came up on the losing end of things, Thompson was spectacular in the second half. He put on a show of multiple back-to-back buckets in a variety of ways. One of which he used a crossover, through the legs, step back to splash a three in his defender’s face. It was one of those games that everyone ran to watch. Thompson had many Division I coaches writing his name on their list.
