Both teams had to compete and play at an extremely high level in order to earn the right to be one of the last eight remaining. Nogales has proved that to be true over and over again – Last week they knocked off the defending state champions and this week, they gave Paradise Valley all that they could handle. Both teams made big plays that could have been the turning point; however, Paradise Valley was able to do just enough to pull it out. Premier players 6’5″ Senior F C.J. VanBeekum and 6’0″ Senior PG/SG Dominic Rogiers played huge minutes down the stretch that enabled their careers to continue for at least one more game.
Nogales
Jose Estrada 5’8″ 2016 PG – Another day at work for a guard who is averaging almost 8 assists per game and over 24 points per game. Estrada was able to get into the lane at will which enabled him to get to create scoring opportunities for himself and others. Estrada was quite impressive due to his toughness, quickness, and craftiness. Estrada, as well as Adalberto Diaz, did whatever he could to try to live to play another game. Unfortunately, his great efforts came up just short.
Adalberto Diaz 6’5″ 2016 PF/C – Along with Estrada, Diaz has been the engine that has made this team go. He started the 2nd half with two huge three pointers that generated the momentum that Nogales needed in order to make a run at it. His size, athleticism, and strong shooting abilities make him a prospect that could certainly play at the next level.
Paradise Valley
CJ VanBeekum 6’5″ 2016 F/C – VanBeekum has increased his stock throughout this season due to his versatile skill set. He has a strong mid-range jumper and a good ability to attack the rim. He had a crucial steal and assist in this game in addition to a couple of big buckets, and two monsterous offensive rebounds. VanBeekum has a lot of potential to play at the next.
Dominic Rogiers 6’0″ 2016 PG/SG – Rogiers started a five to zero run in the fourth quarter that gave Paradise Valley the momentum that needed to pull this game out. Rogiers is an intriguing prospect due to his high basketball IQ, good shooting ability, and strong handles. By the conclusion of this game, his fingerprints were all over it.
Tarriq Tshaka 5’9″ 2017 PG/SG – Tshaka is a smooth guard. He utilizes pump fakes well and takes effective angles when attacking. He does a good job of hitting the deep ball and founding the help side defense when driving. His high assist to turnover ratio make him a valuable piece to this PV team and an intriguing college propsect.
Tashon Brown 5’11” 2018 PG/SG – Brown plays far beyond his young age. Despite being a guard, he is one of the best rebounders on this team. Moreover, I was really impressed with his ability to make smart decisions in transition. He has a great understanding of how to play this game, and he has a very high upside.
Brenden VanDyke 6’5″ 2017 F – VanDyke is a solid contributor for this team due to his length and willingness to play his role. His a talented prospect who understands what is expected of him, and he does a solid job of doing it game in and game out.
