Rockwell All-Star Game North vs. South
Last week the last basketball game for most of the class of 2017 was played at Summit Academy as the 4A & 5A All-Stars played each other one last time. The North All-Stars beat the South All-Stars 145-117. In a game that featured some of the top players in the state, which quickly turned into a shootout, as the North Squad hit 31 three-pointers. The two players that stole the show were Viewmont High School’s Lewis Johnson who showed off some great handles as well as the ability to shoot the outside jumper. The 6’6 wing is definitely a player that could play at a D2 or NAIA. The other player that made it look absolutely effortless was Ryan McCann of Herriman High School, he hit 6 of 10 three-pointers and finished with 22 points. The smooth 6’3 SG will be a steal for a school that will give him a shot. The NWAC schools in attendance were impressed with what Ryan could do.
6’4 Trevin Knell (Cal Berkeley) hit 5 three-pointers and later won the 3-point contest as he only missed 2 shots in the final round beating Zach Jorgensen of Emery who impressed not only the crowd but every player in the gym. The Bingham duo in Dason Youngblood and Lleyton Parker (Dixie State) fresh off a state title were fun to watch. Younblood remains unsigned but he is a low D1 PG. He can hit the mid-range shot, the three and throw it down in traffic. Saxton Morby of Fremont had a nice game with 12 points, Matt Lindsay of Olympus had 18, Connor Shaw of Weber had 16 points and Stockton Shorts of Copper Hills had 11 points.
MVP Ryan McCann of Herriman High School
The South All-Stars put up a great fight as 6’6 Marqus Gilson of Westlake High School led all scorers with 28 points and a lot of dunks. 6’6 Chase Berry of Skyridge High School impressed most of the college coaches on hand as they all wanted the athletic wing who showed off his great motor. Berry had 23 points and 5 dunks in the game. Both Gilson and Berry remain unsigned.
7’0 Ryan Pollard of Bountiful High School is a true center that still remains availible. Pollard had 16 points and sure made the rim shake. Keanu Akina of Pleasant Grove 21 points, Marcus Draney of Skyridge 14 points, Taylor Peppinger of Murray 3 points and Jake Whitehead of American Fork had 12 points.
