Recruiting Report: Rasir Bolton (2018)
Some players are blessed to find the perfect situation right when they enter high school. Others, however, some players aren’t as lucky and are forced to look for the right situation.
The latter is what has happened to Rasir Bolton, a four star point guard from Petersburg. Bolton reclassified after his eighth grade season, and has attended Millwood, Carlisle, Bishop Sullivan and Huntington Prep in the last three seasons.
While some schools would shy away from recruiting a kid who’s been to all of those schools, it hasn’t happened for Bolton, mostly because it wasn’t really his fault. After his freshman season at Millwood, Head Coach Chaz Starnes stepped down. After a roller coaster year at Carlisle as a sophomore, Head Coach Jason Niblett was let go. After half a season at Bishop Sullivan, the entire athletic department was revamped and he left for Huntington Prep.
Amidst all this, Bolton dealt with a lingering knee injury that occurred midway through his sophomore year. Throughout the process, Bolton remained productive and has received over 20 division one offers, and is seeing serious interest lately from high major programs such as Villanova, Texas and Rhode Island.
Bolton has already received offers from power conference schools such as Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Clemson, St. Joe’s and others. As for the decision he makes, it all depends on where he fits in best.
Bolton returns to Team Loaded as a rare two year starter on the Adidas Gauntlet.“The campus size doesn’t really matter just a place with good academics and somewhere I can fit in right away,” Bolton said. “Somewhere that’s fast paced, a lot of ball screens and a place where we get up a lot of shots.”
In Team Loaded’s scrimmage against Team Takeover a couple weekends ago, Bolton led a short handed Loaded team where he was the only true point guard there. He looked healthy and confident, as he handled pressure well and created for both himself and his teammates. After the loss however, Bolton was still critical about himself and his team.
“I think I did alright, could have managed the game a little better and there were a couple of charge calls I shouldn’t have picked up,” Bolton said. “Everyone just has to work to get in shape, get to the same level and keep doing what we’ve been doing and we should be alright.”
It’s simply the type of kid he is, which is a point guard who wants to win basketball games. This summer playing on the Adidas Gauntlet, he’s only worried about one thing.
“Go undefeated. We want to win everything. Every tournament, championship, ESPN game whatever it is we want to win it.”
If Bolton can show that he’s healthy and can help lead his team to a few championships, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see more and more high major programs take a look at the dual threat point guard.
