Recruiting Report: Jordan Goodwin (2018)
St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland has been a factory in terms of producing Division I basketball talent. This season however, the Panthers struggled finishing with a 16-18 overall record and 5-11 in the extremely challenging MIAA A Conference.
They may have had a down season record wise, but the developmental focus from head coach Nick Myles doesn’t stop. Jordan Goodwin will be the next player added to the list of players who will go Division I following his career at St. Frances.
Goodwin was used as one of the top scoring options this season for Myles, but next season Goodwin anticipates being called on as more of a primary ball-handler as well.
“Offensively, I want to focus on becoming more of a point guard,” Goodwin told PrepHoops about what he wants to improve on this summer. “Not only improving my ball-handling, but also my IQ and passing. Defensively, just working on staying in front of my man.”
The 6-foot guard can score in bunches whether it’s shooting from deep or attacking gaps and finishing around the basket. Goodwin realizes with his size, he’s going to have to adopt a point guard’s mentality if he wants to continue to pile offers. The latest Division I point guard out of St. Frances is Kurk Lee Jr., who averaged 14.9, five assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game in his freshman season for Drexel.
Goodwin holds two offers from UMBC and Siena. He told PrepHoops that Radford has shown interest as of late. Academically, Goodwin has a 3.4 cumulative GPA. He is still unsure about what he will major in.
This spring/summer Goodwin is playing for Mid-Atlantic Select where James Lee and his tremendous developmental staff continues to help Goodwin improve his all-around game.
“I can learn any playing time,” said Goodwin on his priority list in evaluating colleges. “It’s just playing for a coach that I can trust, really.”
What will a college get if Goodwin commits to them?
“A player that works hard and if he trusts you, he’ll do anything for you,” Goodwin said. “On and off the court.”
