Recruiting Report: Isaiah Saulsberry (2018)
Harrisburg shooting guard Isaiah Saulsberry is one of the best southern Illinois prospects in the 2018 class. The 6’3” two guard has a great combination of athleticism, strength, and skill. He is crisp with all his movements both on and off the ball. Plus athlete that can get out in the transition game where he is a threat as a finisher and passer. Speaking of passing we have been very impressed with the development of that area of his game. Shows a good feel as an off guard passer especially in the open floor. Really shoots it well from beyond the three point line with a lot of arc on his shot. Just a natural scorer that plays with an ease to him. Very smooth player. He should be monitored by low-major D1 programs and D2’s this spring playing for the Illinois Bears!
Saulsberry spoke about his junior year at Harrisburg where he was the featured player.
“It went alright. It was a learning experience. We lost our point guard so I had to score a lot and step up a little bit more this year. I am looking forward to next year.”
What areas did he see growth in his game?
“Creating on my own off the dribble. Penetrating a lot more than always just shooting threes.”
His three point shot is definitely one of his strengths, but he says establishing his game off the bounce first sets that up.
“Attacking the rim, getting fouled, and getting to the free throw line early.”
The 2018 prospect has been getting looks from three local D1 programs.
“Evansville has been talking to me. I had a visit to SIU. Eastern Illinois I visited them.”
Saulsberry doesn’t hold an offer from any of the schools yet, but he has visited all three. He broke down each one with us.
Eastern Illinois
“It was small, but I liked the campus. They said I need to continue to get stronger and get in the weight room.”
SIU
“It was pretty fun. They took me into locker room after they won. It was pretty crazy.”
Evansville
“I went one of their games and one of their assistant coaches came to one of my games. I like their school. It is a lot more calm.”
What is he going to be looking for in a school?
“I am looking to go into physical therapy so a place that has a good program in that.”
