Recruiting Report: Hayden Stauffer (2018)
Centreville’s 6-foot-6 power forward Hayden Stauffer has two Midwest D3s hot on his trail, and is hoping to see some D2 interest come in by summer’s end.
The cerebral post is hoping to enter the medical field, and there’s one Michigan program he’s especially hoping reaches out to him.
“I’m hoping to see if Ferris State reaches out to me, because I’m getting in the medical field and they have a really great program there. It’s D2 and I feel like I could play at that level,” said Stauffer.
“Kalamazoo College has reached out to me, and Lake Forest College out of Illinois has been texting me and calling me lately, so I might set up some visits with them. And I think I’ll be heading to some exposure camps this summer as well.”
A true post, Stauffer says he is most effective playing with his back to the basketball, a lost art among students of the game today.
“I like to play physical and I think I have pretty good footwork, so I like to play with my back to the basket. I’m trying to get my face-up game going and knock down some more jump-shots, so I can transfer that to college maybe,” said Stauffer, who has worked hard to put on weight these past 12 months.
“The weight-room has helped me a lot, I’ve probably put on about 20 pounds since last season, and that’s really helped me with my game.”
As a junior with the Bulldogs, Stauffer says he was one of the team’s leaders, and he averaged a double-double, netting 15 points per game and snaring 10 boards per.
Now, he shifts his focus to the offseason, and will play with MBA Regional 17U this spring and summer.
“I’m really just trying to improve as a player and learn as much as I can, and transfer that into my junior season,” said Stauffer.
“I want to work as hard as I can, and really just show college coaches what I can do.”
