Recruiting Report: Eysan Wiley (2017)
COLUMBIA — Eysan Wiley, one of the state’s premier 2017 forwards, is off the table as he is headed to NCAA Division II William Jewell in Liberty, Mo.
He says he developed a strong relationship with the coaching staff and school and felt at ease with the decision.
“I committed to William Jewell because it felt like I was at home on my visit,” Wiley said. “I felt like I had a great bond with the coaching staff and the team. They also were always at my games supporting me and showed the most interest in me.
“The school is a top tier school academically, which gives me the best chance in the future.I feel like I can fit in there system well playing some 3 and some 4. I also think they will put me in the best position to succeed on the court.”
After a slow start at Rock Bridge, the Bruins picked it up midseason as they blended a pair of talented classes together and developed chemistry on the court.
“We weren’t playing well (early), but got out of the drought,” Wiley said. “We put different winning streaks together and finished off with a good record. I’m glad I had another shot and winning another district title.”
Known for his ability to get busy in the post, Wiley has worked hard at expanding his game to the perimeter and hopes to get stronger in the weight room as well this offseason.
“I felt like I improved in my 3 point shot,” he says. “I could always step out and hit them, I just didn’t have much confidence in shooting them. I also got to be on the perimeter more, as a whole, so that helped my game all around.
“This summer I’m going to continue to work on my 3 pt. shot and my ball handling skills. I’m also aiming towards putting on quite a bit of weight (muscle of course) because I’ll need to guard 3s and 4s. I also want to get a little bit quicker laterally.”
Wiley says he plans to spend much of his summer in his native Oklahoma working on getting in shape and stronger in the weight room as he prepares for his freshman season.
“I’m just going to continue preparing my body for the college game. I gotta get in better shape and put on weight, I want to play at 210,” he says.
