Recruiting Report: Davonte Saeed-El (2017)
Davonte Saeed-El of Robbinsdale Armstrong was moved up from JV to varsity halfway through his junior year. He had his work cut out for him.
“I knew I was there to push the ball, play defense, and just be that guy that gets the ball moving,” he said. “This year, I had to be more vocal, because we lost a lot of seniors and contributors to the team. I began to talk more, help younger players on the team or even varsity players and I had to pick up on the scoring too. I’m the guy who get the team in the game but at the same time carries the team too.
“I would be the hardest one in practice, loudest on defense, smartest on offense, and gave it my all every practice and game. I knew for us to be a strong team I had to be a good point guard, I had to pick it up on defense, get guys into the game, be loud on the court and just be a coach on the court.”
Production followed Saeed-El’s senior leadership. He was one of three Falcons averaging double-figure scoring at 12.9 PPG, and Armstrong went 18-8 in another successful season for coach Greg Miller.
Now that his high school career is over, the 5-foot-11 point guard says he is “just going to pick the best place that fits me and where I will improve.”
“I visited Mankato,” Davonte said, “and I’ve been in contact with Sioux Falls, Anoka-Ramsey, Rochester (RCTC), Central Lakes, then there are a couple others that I haven’t spoken to in a while, like St. Olaf.”
