Recruiting Report: Cole Kleiver (2018)
Michigan’s 74th-ranked 2018, Williamston point guard Cole Kleiver is coming out of a nice junior season and hoping that momentum carries into his 17U campaign.
The 5-foot-11 junior currently has some Division III interest coming in, and is hoping to see some Division II programs notice him before summer’s end.
“I’m looking to get a couple D3s and some D2s hopefully; I feel like I can play at the D2 level. And I’m looking to go into a sports marketing major, so I’ll be looking for a school that has that,” said Kleiver.
“The biggest two D3s that are after me now are Hope College and Trine. And I would love to see D2 interest, I would love any interest, but I like the local ones and Grand Valley (State) would be cool.”
A high scoring guard with a sturdy frame, Kleiver defined his strengths to PHMI.
“I’d say I’m a big bodied point guard, I’m physical and I shoot a lot of 3s. I like the pull-up jumper off the dribble, and I take it to the rack strong,” he said. “I’m a good finisher and good shooter and I take care of the ball well, and I’m calm under pressure.”
The collected point guard was instrumental in helping the Hornets advance to the Class B quarterfinals, where they lost on a last second 3. He averaged 17.7 points and 3.6 assists per game.
“I was the leader of the team along with another senior guard. I was the top scorer and the go-to guy for most of the season,” said Kleiver, who now shifts his focus to his duties with the Michigan Titans
“It’s different for me than it is for school season, we play a lot different than most AAU teams. I’m the starting point guard and we’re looking to have another successful like we did last year, and win some more championships.”
