Recruiting Report: Bobby Miller (2018)
The Paint Branch Panthers finished with a record of 17-7 this past season in a very deep Montgomery County Conference that included teams such as Quince Orchard, Springbrook, Magruder, and many more. They benefitted from a seven-game winning streak from late January to mid-February that ultimately gave them a top seed in their portion of the Class 4A bracket. The Panthers’ season would end against the eventual 4A champions Perry Hall in the regional final.
Bobby Miller was a key contributor in the team’s success this season pitching in with 10 points, two rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. As a team, they had very balanced scoring throughout the roster, with the leading scorer averaging 12.8 points per game. As for Miller, he had a solid junior campaign with high expectations carrying over into next season as a senior.
The 6’3 lefty can shoot with the best of them. He gets great elevation on his shot and perhaps the most effective part is his release point. Like most high school players, when Miller catches the ball, he doesn’t have to bring it down to get into his shot. He can catch chest or even shoulder level at some points and let it go, making it extremely difficult for his defender to contest off close-outs.
Once Miller makes his match up pay from outside, he uses his quick first step to blow by and attack the rim. In some situations, Miller has ‘sneaky’ athleticism where he can elevate quickly to finish, but give him a chance to show off his hops in the open floor and he can throw down a nice dunk.
Because of his athleticism, Miller is always a threat of chase down blocks in transition. No lay up in safe if Miller is on the player’s tail.
I caught up with Miller at the Hoop Group Top 100 Showcase in Baltimore a couple of weekends ago, and he told me Colgate has expressed interest in him, but other than that he isn’t hearing from many schools consistently. He will be playing with the DC Warriors for this spring/summer. Miller wants to improve on his decision making his ability to rise up in traffic off one or two dribbles.
As for specifics in his college search, Miller hopes to major in computer science.
