Prospect Spotlight: Elijah Pepper (2019)
After a wildly successful sophomore campaign, Selah 6-foot-3 guard Elijah Pepper will now look to generate some buzz on the 16U circuit this spring and summer.
His Vikings made it all the way to the 2A title game, and were led all season by Pepper’s 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists per game.
Pretty eye-opening numbers for a sophomore.
“I thought I played a lot better than last year, my role this year was to be more of a leader and a scorer,” said Pepper. “And when we needed something to happen, usually I was the spark for our team.”
As he heads into his 16U offseason, it’s defense that he’s looking to hone.
“I’ve been trying to work a lot on my foot quickness and defense,” said Pepper. “My offensive game is pretty good, and I’ve been working on my lateral movement and my athleticism more.”
Washington’s 6th-ranked 2019, Pepper will again play with Northwest Coastal, and hopes to expand on his current interest from schools like Boise State, Cal Poly and San Francisco.
“My role on this team is a lot different than high school. I still score a lot with them, but I’m more of an all-around player on this team, instead of in high school where I have to do a lot more of the scoring,” said Pepper.
“I’m kind of just hoping I stand out and hopefully the coaches see me and like me. I’m not really worried about it (recruitment) right now; if it happens, it happens and that’d be great. But I’m not too worried about it.”
