Palmetto State : Recruiting News Updates
Plenty of recruiting news has happened in the Palmetto State in recent days. Here is a
quick rundown of some of the action.
Ta’Seon “DJ” Johnson will sign with Catawba (NC) (NCAA D2) on Friday.
Johnson is ranked #46 in the Prep Hoops Top 125 this season. Johnson 6’6 post
player played at Timberland HS (St Stephen). Johnson averaged 14 ppg this season for the
Wolves. Johnson played in the South Carolina North-South All State Game.
Donalson Fanord
Donalson Fanord was recently playing AAU with Team United Elite. Fanord 6’8 is ranked
#54 in the Prep Hoops Top 125 this season. Fanord has played his school basketball career
at Walnut Grove Christian School in Fort Mill. Fanord has received interest from Emmanuel
College (GA) (NCAA D2) program.
Tyson McClain has ended his recruitment and signed with Lenoir Rhyne (NC) (NCAA D2) for
next season. McClain averaged 12 ppg and 4 rebounds this season for the Dorman Cavaliers. The
Cavaliers won the 5A State Championship. McClain is ranked #66 in the Prep Hoops Top 125 this season.
McClain played last month in the Swanny’s Unsigned Senior Event.
Caleb Shackleford
Caleb Shackleford will stay in state to play at Erskine (NCAA D2) next season. Shackleford 6’5 is the son of the
late Charles Shackleford is ranked #67 in the Prep Hoops Top 125 this season. Shackleford played
at Lexington HS.
Chandler Tate decided he wanted to play at Pfeiffer (NC) (NCAA D3) next fall. Tate 5’11 guard won
a state championship at Dorman HS this season.
Zack Fitz
Zack Fitz is a late bloomer and a Coker College (NCAA D2) signee. Fitz 6’7 played at little SCISA 1A
North Myrtle Beach Christian. Fitz played last weekend with Team All or Nothing and recorded
11 blocks in a game vs Premier Jammers. Fitz is a very deceptive athlete on the floor and can shoot the
ball on the perimeter.
Vince Cole
Vince Cole was ranked #12 in the Prep Hoops Top 125 this season. Cole recently came out and said he
will be in the 2018 class and is no longer committed to the College of Charleston. Cole a former
James Island HS athlete transferred in January 2017 to York Prep. Cole is running the AAU circuit
with Upward Stars SE 2018.
Duane Moss
Duane Moss recently had a minor surgery that sidelined him for the second half of the hoop season
this year. Moss a one-time Youngstown State signee has re-opened his recruitment. Moss has heard
from UNC-Greensboro, Chattanooga, Ohio University, Washington State and Austin Peay this spring.
