Intro: Tevin Smith (2021)
We had heard that 6’4” 2021 Danville product Tevin Smith was the next big thing out of that area for a while. He showed just that when we watched him this spring. Plus size for the position early in the process. Should be able to grow a couple more inches as well with his frame. Lengthy wing with some early strength. Explosive first step with long strides covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Skill level is impressive for an athlete of his caliber at a young age. Smith handles it putting combination moves together to get in the lane. Shoots it well with a clean looking stroke from both mid-range and three. Works well in the pick and pop game as a screener and stretching the floor. One we will be watching closely over the next four years.
Smith spoke about his game and what he does best on the floor.
“All-around player. I can shoot the three. Score and attack wherever I want too.”
He is coming off a strong final year of grammar school basketball.
“It went good. We won state for our state in Danville. I averaged about 25 points per game.”
This upcoming season he will be on a very talented Danville squad that already features top 10 2018 Kendelle Moore. What are his goals for his first year of high school basketball?
“I am hoping to play on varsity and try to make it to state.”
Smith plays with the Mac Irvin Fire 14U on the circuit.
