IndyBall: Top 2020 Performers
This past weekend we spent some time at North Central High School getting into some AAU action. It was a great first weekend and now we are ready to take a look at some of the top players from the event.
Kiyron Powell – 6’7 | PF | Evansville Bosse (IN) | Team Kell 2020
One of the players in the 2020 class that people will need to track over the next few years is going to be Powell. The 6’7 and growing forward is looking like he is going to grow a ton more and he’s already pretty skilled. Once he adds strength, he should be able to really advance that skillset and expand upon it. He can put the ball on the floor and make a play away from the rim but looked much improved as a rim protector and scorer in the low post. At this time a year ago, he might have only been 6’3.
Tayson Parker – 6’1 | SG | Indianapolis Homeschool (IN) | Indiana Elite 2020
Tayson is a ridiculous athlete that is kind of a guy without a position as he isn’t a traditional point guard but not sure on how well he can score it to play off the ball. This weekend, he showed a slightly improved jumper from deep. If he can continue to make adjustments and make it a real threat, it could really help to balance out his game. The other area he showed was his ability to score at the rim. He was doing it in the Homeschool scene but it was great to see him do it against a higher level of competition.
Mabor Majak – 7’1 | C | Hamilton Southeastern (IN) | Indiana Elite 2020
Mabor is really talented already but it is easy to see the improvements he’s made in such a short time. His ability to block shots in the lane and maneuver his body in air to make plays on offense. He can finish crazy tip dunks and alley oops in a way that prove that he has a chance to be special. He’s pretty comfortable in his body already and he’s getting better and better. Give him a little more time to work on his touch around the rim and he should take another step forward. Was really impressive this week.
Tony Perkins – 6’2 | SG | Lawrence North (IN) | EG10 2020
Tony played really well in the games we watched. He’s a tough wing who can score it well at the rim. He’s a guy that needs to attack the rim and he found success doing that this weekend. His frame is stellar and as he continues to add that skill, you should see more weekends like this where he can be an effective scorer against top talent in the state.
Trey Galloway – 6’3 | SG | Culver Academies (IN) | Indiana Elite 2020
Trey is going to be one of the more interesting players in the state in the 2020 class with a tall frame but long and skinny. He’s going to add weight at some point and he already can play really tough on both ends of the floor. He’s a solid jump shooter and he can pair that with the ability to slash into the lane. Give him a bit more time and he’s going to make a jump in his game, probably sooner rather than later.
