Grassroots Preview: Mid Atlantic Select 17U
The Mid Atlantic Select program merged with Baltimore United (UA) for last season’s circuit, but they’ve returned to being their separate team. You would think because of all the movement, it would be hard to keep much of the talent, especially considering it’s a 17U team, but Director James Lee has done a tremendous job bringing the program back to life. EJ Jones will do the honors in leading the team this season as they compete in tough tournaments throughout the summer.
The program has had over 60 college alumni. Some alumni include: Garland Owens (Boston College), C.J. Keyser (Witchita State), and Zach Thomas (Bucknell) just to name a few.
Roster
Jordan Goodwin | St. Frances | 2018
-Goodwin currently holds offers from Siena and UMBC. The 6-foot guard is quick and has a good feel for finishing around the basket. He is also an effective catch and shoot shooter from the outside.
Matt Balanc | Springbrook | 2018
-Balanc has all the athleticism in the world. He uses his 6-3 frame to an advantage against other point guards and can elevate quickly once he gets in the paint. Needless to say, he’ll supply a fair share of highlights this summer.
Amari Cooper | Wakefield | 2018
-Once again, another athletic player who can play above the rim, Cooper is a 6’4 wing that averaged 11.5 points per game for Wakefield High School (VA) this season. He’s relentless when it comes to crashing the glass on both ends
PJ Jordan | St. Albans | 2019
-Jordan is a 5’9 scrappy guard with a high basketball IQ and a knack for stepping up as a leader on the floor. He averaged 11.3 points per game and led St. Albans in assists this past season.
Maurice Carroll | Cushing Academy | 2018
-Carroll is a 6’6 forward with a seven-foot wingspan that assists him in being a force defensively. He is a strong finisher around the rim and does well running in transition for lobs or putbacks.
Caleb Dorsey | Hill School | 2020
-Dorsey will be the youngest player on the team, but he won’t be doing much time watching from the sideline. The 6’7 wing can shoot from outside effectively and is a crafty finisher around the rim. Dorsey has a ton of upside and this summer should be a perfect opportunity to add offers. He currently holds an offer from UMBC.
Jon ‘Dae Dae’ McNeil | Prep | 2018
