Grassroots: Phenom Challenge Live Day 3
Prep Hoops was at the Phenom Challenge Live this weekend. Prep Hoops was able to take in some Palmetto State teams on the final day. Some players that stood out while we were in attendance.
Quintin Crawford (2020) Ridge View HS – Team United SC Black 15u( photo on the front)
Crawford 6’1 is a floor general on both ends of the floor. Crawford shows a nice mid-range game along with shooting the 3 ball. Crawford scored 33 points in the win over PSB Select.
Javon Benson (2020) Westwood HS – Team United SC Black 15u
Benson is 6’6 center for the Team United SC Black 15u. Benson has a big body and will crash the boards for rebounds. Benson can step-out to 12-14 feet. Benson scored 23 points in the win over PSB select.
Team United SC Black 15u went on to win the 15u SEC bracket with a 60-53 win over Charlotte Jets in the finals at Dorman High.
Desmond Murray (2019) Williston-Elko HS – Aiken Select
Murray 6’3 tweener on the floor. Murray generally plays in the paint. Murray gives great effort on every possession.
Jimmie Foreman (2019) Silver Bluff HS – Aiken Select
Foreman 6’2 wing player is a very aggressive on the ball defender. Foreman looked to play a lot along the baseline.
Jadakiss Wright (2019) Silver Bluff HS – Aiken Select
Wright 6’1 has nice range on his shot and will bring the ball up the floor. Wright was bothered with a thigh bruise and didn’t play much today. Wright also scored six points in the loss.
Sean McCabe (2019) Nation Ford HS– Fort Mill Knicks Witherspoon
McCabe is a 6’0 guard that plays for Fort Mill Witherspoon. McCabe scored a game-high 18 points in the win over WCBA Elite.
Zach Baldinelli (2019) Boiling Springs –Upward Stars Upstate-White 16u
Baldinelli is a 6’2 left-handed guard for the Stars. Baldinelli can shoot the three and drive to the basket. Baldinelli has a great Basketball IQ. Baldinelli is quick and aggressive on the defense end. Baldinelli scored 16 points in the win over TMP 16u.
Trey Smith (2019) Landrum HS – Upward Stars Upstate-White 16u
Smith 5’11 left-handed guard is quick to basket and tends to show a nice mid-range game. Smith hit several three pointers and shows a lot of confidence on the floor. Smith had 17 points in the win.
Omar Cook (2019) Richland Northeast HS – Upward Stars Columbia 16u
Cook is a 6’1 forward for Upward. Cook is quick and versatile in the paint. Cook gets the rebounds and put ball back in the basket. Cook scored 12 points in the win over Carolina Rockets.
Devin Dean (2019) First Baptist (Charleston) Upward Stars –Columbia 16u
Dean 6’1 forward is very aggressive on defense. Dean also scored eight points in the win. Dean and Cook played together last season on the Carolina Wolves 15.
Will Edwards 2018- Wade Hampton (Greenville)
Edwards 6’6 big body controls the paint for Upward. Edwards rebounds on both ends and block outs. Edwards scored 16 points in the double overtime win over Atlanta All-Stars.
Foster Bridges 2018- Landrum- Upward Stars Upstate- White 17u
Bridges 6’4 forward for Upward. Bridges has the ability to shoot from all 3 levels. Bridges will also drive to the basket. Bridges scored 12 points.
Gabe Bryant 2018- Dorman- Atlanta All Stars
Bryant 6’9 is always around the basket. Bryant grabs rebounds and puts the ball in the hole. Bryant will alter and challenge shots on the defensive end. High Point, Gardner Webb and USC-Upstate have all shown interest in Bryant this spring.
