EYBL: Derrick’s Saturday Dimes
EYBL: Derrick’s Saturday Dimes
Prep Hoops Illinois and Prep Hoops Network staff was back at J. Byrd Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for day 2 of Nike EYBL action. I take a look at some of the standouts in games I scouted Saturday here in Derrick’s Saturday Dimes.
PG – Darius Garland 6’2’’ (2018) Brad Beal Elite
The electric point guard out of Nashville, Tennessee continued to show why he is one of the top players in the country with another great day. In the final game of the day versus Expressions Elite, Garland showed poise and command of his team. He is a slick ball handler who keeps the ball on a string all while keeping his eyes open for teammates where he is an elite passer. He is great at changing pace and doesn’t get out of control on the break. He finished with 19 points 6 assist and 4 rebounds in the win for Brad Beal Elite. He also had a 32-point performance earlier in the day. High major prospect with offers from Duke, Vanderbilt, Indiana, and Ohio State among others.
G – Demarius Jacobs 6’3’’ (2018) Mac Irvin Fire
Demarius Jacobs had an overall solid day for the Mac Irvin Fire with games of 14 points on 6-8 from the field and a 21-point performance where he was 8-10 from the field and 3-5 from 3-point range. He was very efficient on the day going 14-18 for 77% from the field. Probably the biggest two points came off a baseline reverse dunk where showed off his athleticism. He showed a nice shot from deep hitting 3-6 for 50% for the day. A big-time athlete he showed he could be efficient on the offense end, he defended well playing the passing lanes and blocking shots.
WF – Karrington Davis 6’6’’ (2018) Brad Beal Elite
Karrington Davis out of St. Louis Chaminade High School proved a major spark off the bench for Brad Beal Elite offensively. Davis is crafty around the basket and can weave his way through defenses to get to the lane. Attacking the basket, he got to the line often where he was 9-10 and he totaled 19 points in the win over Expressions Elite. Davis showed toughness, and grit but also a good skillset. Davis has offers from Kansas State, Saint Louis, SIUE and Middle Tennessee State.
G – Foster Loyer 6’0’’ (2018) All Ohio Red
The Michigan State commit Foster Loyer went for 31 points in a win over the Mac Irvin Fire he was 5-9 from the field including 3-6 from three. Where Loyer lived at was the free throw line where he was 18-18. Loyer has a textbook shot and Michigan State will be getting a sharpshooter who has a high basketball IQ and makes good decisions from the lead guard spot.
G – Javon Freeman 6’4’’ (2018) Meanstreets
The athletic Javon Freeman continued his strong play this spring helping Meanstreets defeat NY Rens. Freeman is best when he is out on the break and can use his athletic ability to score. However, Freeman played well in the half court set, and hit some mid-range jumpers and a three in the game. He finished 8-12 from the field with 19 points to lead Meanstreets in a 72-68 victory.
