The Class AAAA All State Team
The Class AAAA All State team finishes off the Northstar Hoops post-season honors as we give you the best big school players in Minnesota.
First Team
Tre Jones of Apple Valley (Sr). The state champion, the player of the year, the state’s top player, and an all around champion. On both ends. Averaged 23.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assist. Plus he has two rings.
McKinley Wright of Champlin Park (Sr). Our Senior of the Year/Senior MVP earned his Mr. Basketball trophy this year leading the Rebels to wins in their first 31 games with a 23 point, eight rebound, and 7.6 assist per game average.
Brad Davison of Maple Grove (Sr). Davison had the most clutch shot makes this year with some memorable buzzer beaters. The future Wisconsin Badger averaged 24.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.9 assists a game.
Matthew Hurt, Rochester John Marshall (Soph). The Rockets won 25 games this year and Matt put up 29.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.8 blocks, and 2.1 steals a game. Matthew made 62.6 percent of his attempts.
Nathan Reuvers of Lakeville North (Sr). Pushed the Panthers back to the state tournament yet again with his 25.6 points and 12.3 rebounds a contest. The future Badger big was a threat inside and out.
Daniel Oturu of CDH (Jr). Oturu took his team full of juniors to state, he led the state in boards, led the state in blocks, and he scored between 17 and 18 a game this year.
Second Team
Theo John of Champlin Park (Sr). The likely Defensive Player of Year blocked five shots a game and changed the approach of the opposition. Also scored 14 points with nine boards.
Myles Hanson of Chaska (Sr). Hanson put together a memorable second half to the season with some monster games, a game winner to get to state, and a 24.3 per game averaged.
Tywhon Pickford of Maple Grove (Sr). Bounced back from an injury to give the Crimson a second big weapon with his 21 points and 8.3 rebounds a game.
Gavin Baumgartner of Wayzata (Sr). This is another Defensive Player of the Year candidate and his team simply won with him as the do everything leader. Trojans were often #2 ranked in state, finished third.
Jordan Horn of Tartan (Sr). The Siena signed recruit put up 18.5 points per game for the 25-4 Titans plus led in assists.
Third Team
Race Thompson of Robbinsdale Armstrong (Jr). At 20 points, nine boards, and four assists a game Race led the Falcons to a better season than many expected them to have. The Falcons won 18 games.
Walt McGrory of Edina (Sr). With 23 points, eight boards, and six assists a game Walt made the Hornets a top ten team this year.
Michael Jones of Woodbury (Jr). Scored over 25 a game in aggressive style for a 20 win Royals team that was ranked in the top ten even after some player losses. Jones had to carry the offense at times and did it well.
Goodnews Kpegeol of North St. Paul (Jr). The Polars had a better season than expected with 17 victories and it was Kpegeol stepping forward with 21 points per game and doing some of everything.
Ishamel El-Amin of Hopkins (Sr). Losing six games at Hopkins isn’t the norm but their players deserve credit for good years and Ishmael led with 21 points, five boards, and almost five assists.
Fourth Team
Zach Hanson of New Prague (Sr). The Trojans had a great year and Zach led with 18 points a contest plus led in rebounds.
Tyler Riermersma of Bloomington Jefferson (Sr). Had that 32 board game, led the Jags to a 22-5 year, and put up 20 points and ten boards a night.
Ryan Larson of CDH (Jr). Led the state in assists with 8.8 a game, led his team to state after winning a title last year, and scored 13.7 a night.
Courtney Brown, East Ridge (Soph). The Raptors won 22 games this winter with Brown leading the way with 19.5 points per game. A 6-foot-6 forward.
Jack Sorenson, Lakeville South (Jr). Scored 22 a game this year and is a rare member of the 2,000 point club in Minnesota.
