Capital Hoop Fest Scouting: 2020 Part 2
WASHINGTON, DC — The Elevate Hoops Capital Hoop Fest showcased some of the best teams from the greater Baltimore/Washington D.C. region at Catholic University on last weekend for a weekend of competition and exposure. It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is the second part of of our 2020 scouting report!
F/C DOWAR JIOKLOW | DC BLUE DEVILS
Dowar Jioklow intrigued us with his blend of size and skill. The 6’9 big is also a very active player, and a forceful paint presence defensively. We saw Jioklow block three shots on one possession.
F JUSTIN LEWIS | TEAM MELO
Justin Lewis formed a dynamic duo alongside Che Evans, and was arguably the best freshman in this tournament. When he wants to be, Lewis is difficult to handle in the paint. The 6’7 forward has incredibly long arms, and doesn’t mind contact when finishing around the rim.
G DARIUS MILES | DC BLUE DEVILS
Darius Miles has all the tools to be a very good player, and potentially a household name down the road. The 6’3 guard has considerable length, and plays bigger than most guards. Miles is a very good rebounder, and gets to the rim with relative ease. Miles will need to become more consistent with his three point shot, but he’s very confident shooting from the middle areas.
G DONOVAN MILLER | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Donovan Miller is a high IQ guard with a solid offensive skill set. Miller has the ability to create space, elevate and hit contested shots. Miller likes get downhill and attack the paint, where he can create easy looks for himself and others.
F WOODY NEWTON | TEAM THRILL
Woody Newton has a chance to be a very good player, and is close to seeing his recruitment expand. The 6’7 wing has long arms, and appears to be growing still. Newton can put the ball on the floor, create, finish, rebound, and block shots. Newton will need to continue to work on his perimeter jump shot, but he’s already made progress in that area since the high school season.
G DIMINGUS STEVENS | DC BLUE DEVILS
Dimingus Stevens has ideal size on the wing at 6’4, and can shoot it very well from the perimeter. Stevens showcased his athleticism, playmaking ability and versatility as he played both on and off the ball at times.
G JORDAN TOLES | TEAM THRILL
Pound-for-pound, there may not be a more explosive freshman in the region than Jordan Toles. The dynamic lead guard can absolutely fly, and we saw that as he threw down a handful of emphatic dunks this weekend. Toles is very good at getting downhill, and can finish from a variety of angles.
