Capital Hoop Fest Scouting: 2019 Part 2
WASHINGTON, DC — The Elevate Hoops Capital Hoopfest showcased some of the best teams from the greater Baltimore/Washington D.C. region at Catholic University on last weekend for a weekend of competition and exposure. It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is part two of our 2019 scouting report!
G JACK KOUBA | ARLINGTON ROCKETS
Jack Kouba has good size for a two guard, and works well off the ball. Kouba displays solid footwork, and does a good job setting his feet quickly in preparation for his shot. The 6’2 guard is an efficient perimeter jump shooter from the catch.
G/F MARIAL MADING | TEAM THRILL
Marial Mading plays extremely hard, and has a significant ceiling given his unique blend of size and skill. Mading stands 6’7, but has the skill set of a guard. His frame is thin, but Mading has plenty of time to add strength as he continues to grow into his body.
C CODY MAINS | DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Cody Mains is still raw offensively, but he’s got good size at 6’7+ and a solid work rate. Mains is a physical post presence who is effective at defending ball screens, but can also protect the rim.
F COLE MATTHIESEN | MID-ATLANTIC SELECT 17U
Cole Matthiesen doesn’t jump off the page with his athleticism, but he owns a superb basketball IQ to go along with good size and a high motor. The 6’5 forward does not force things, and is extremely unselfish.
F/C JASON MURPHY | TEAM MELO
Jason Murphy stood out on the defensive end. Murphy was vocal as the anchor on the back line, and active at closing out and boxing out. The 6’8 big man ran the floor hard, crashed the offensive glass with purpose, and set good screens.
G/F MARVIN PRICE | TEAM THRILL
Marvin Price put on a show this weekend for Team Thrill. The strong 6’5 wing attacked the rim aggressively, and tried to dunk everything. Price is clearly benefiting from his improved fitness.
